About This Project
The Indices of Multiple Deprivation 2004 (IMD 2004) are measures of deprivation for every Super Output Area and local authority area in England. It combines a number of indicators across seven domains (Income, Employment, Heath deprivation and disability, Education, skills and training deprivation, Barriers to Housing and Services, Living Environment deprivation and Crime) into a single deprivation score and rank for each area. There are also six summary measures for County Councils, an Income Deprivation Affecting Children Index and an Income Deprivation Affecting Older People Index. Please note a higher score means a higher rate of deprivation, whereas a low rank means more deprived (a rank of 1 is most deprived in the country and a rank of 32,482 is the least deprived nationally)
